Through our collective members (bars, federations, and associations) and individual members, the World Bar Association (WBA) aims to connect lawyers from 250 countries.
Dues-Free WBA Membership
Dues-free WBA membership is open to all the world’s practicing lawyers, judges, court administrators, law teachers, public service attorneys and non-practicing lawyers who are business executives, government officials, and so forth. The WBA represents geographic interests such as those of state, national and international bar associations. It represents practioners in specialized areas of the law. It also represents affiliated law-related organizations and groups with specialized interests or needs such as administrative law judges, lawyers in the armed forces, and minority and women’s bar associations.
Overview of the WBA
The legal profession can be viewed as a giant confederation at the center of which is the World Bar Association. While the WBA does not have the power to discipline attorneys or enforce rules, the Association leads by developing model rules and guidelines. The WBA serves as an international voice of the profession. It is a maker of models, a codifier, a searchlight, an experimenter, a moral force working to make the justice system work better for all citizens of all nations.
Objectives of the WBA
The objectives of the WBA are to promote the welfare and global interests of members; achieve greater economies of scale and efficiencies for members; identify and address the professional needs and goals of legal professionals and law students around the world; foster among lawyers and law students a greater awareness of and access to the needs of the international community; promote professional excellence; and increase the global public’s access to the justice system and to affordable assistance with its legal and law-related needs.
